Susan Isaac – Southwell Minster from the Recreation Ground

This is the fifth & final painting in the Rufford exhibition, again of Southwell Minster. In the spring, before new leaves have unfurled, soft and fragile pink blossoms make a striking contrast against sharply defined trees, whose dark plum branches fracture the early morning pastel lemon sky. The pale atmosphere is striated by these organic linear forms. Their open tracery creates an interesting counterpoint to the solidity of the Minster stonework.
