Rufford Exhibition – Southwell Minster from the Recreation Ground
This is the fifth & final painting in the Rufford exhibition, again of Southwell Minster. In the spring, before new leaves have unfurled, soft and fragile pink blossoms make a striking contrast against sharply defined trees, whose dark plum branches … Continue reading
Rufford Exhibition – Southwell Minster from Squire’s Pond
In this composition, I was particularly playing with lemon yellows and enjoying the contrast of dark mauve field boundaries that zigzag through it. Squire’s Pond and a spring time ‘forget-me-not’ sky create another complimentary layer of colour interest. Southwell Minster is confined … Continue reading

Southwell Minster series – 7
Some time ago, I started a picture of Southwell Minster from a garden off Westgate – spent the day reworking it. I really liked the luxuriant cascading foliage hanging down in front of the Minster facade.
Southwell Minster series – 6
Spent a short time finishing off the Minster painting (wanted to clarify some window and architectural details on the cathedral) before taking my Dad in for his cateract operation (right eye). The op went fine.
Southwell Minster series – 5
New canvas of the Minster – a view from Hill House field. The image is vibrant with a lemon light on the field and glows through the large chestnut leaves that frame the view of the Minster, itself dissolving in … Continue reading
