- Not many folk have a national organisation next door - just 9 doors away here in Upton in Nottinghamshire is the Museum of Time Keeping and I am delighted they wanted to have my work in the museum shop. They opened again at the end of May and you can visit them on Fridays and Saturdays. It really is an extraordinary place to spend some time! …Explored this classic semi-aerial #Staithes view this morning, with acrylic on cartridge paper. I’ll probably use this as the basis for an oil painting later.Wonderful to be back in #Staithes after such a long interval! Had a beautiful afternoon at the top of Church Lane looking down into the town. Thistles, nettles, cow parsley and honesty seed heads to the side of the pathway caught my attention. This small ‘Roses on Window Sill’ is an arrangement of salmon pink roses, in a jug - a gift from a neighbour - placed against the backdrop of a side-sash window. (oil on canvas, 30x30cm).This small 'Teazel Study' examines 3 dried stems of teazels, upstanding against the light, in tones of ochre and black (oil on canvas, 20x20cm).

In this composition, I was particularly playing with lemon yellows and enjoying the contrast of dark mauve field boundaries that zigzag through it. Squire’s Pond and a spring time ‘forget-me-not’ sky create another complimentary layer of colour interest. Southwell Minster is confined … Continue reading
I wanted to say a little more about the five paintings I have in the Open Studios Notts exhibition at Rufford. In this winter view of Southwell Minster the open gateway of the Bishops residence invites the passerby to stop and gaze … Continue reading
I have a group of paintings in the “Open Studios Notts Exhibition” at the gallery in Rufford Park, with its preview this Sunday 5 May (and then running 6 May to June). I thought it appropriate that they should be relating … Continue reading
Yesterday I delivered paintings to the Thoresby Gallery for my solo exhibition, ‘Light & Line in the Landscape‘, which starts on Tuesday. Cynthia has been hanging the paintings today, alongside a small selection of my ceramic sculptural works. There are … Continue reading
I’m going to be at the Southwell Minster Spring Fair on Saturday (5th March 2011) and have just started gathering things together for this. I will be displaying prints and art cards of my work alongside several new paintings, particularly … Continue reading
Some time ago, I started a picture of Southwell Minster from a garden off Westgate – spent the day reworking it. I really liked the luxuriant cascading foliage hanging down in front of the Minster facade.
Spent a short time finishing off the Minster painting (wanted to clarify some window and architectural details on the cathedral) before taking my Dad in for his cateract operation (right eye). The op went fine.
