Cambridge

My paintings of Oxford and Cambridge initially arose from trips to visit my daughters in their student days – and I have continued to visit. These university towns are similar for a richness of architectural beauty and imbued with cultural significance. Entering the historic interior of each town inspires a curious and overwhelming sense of familiarity, reverence, and nostalgia. Yet each projects quite particular identity in terms of textures, palate of colour and spatial arrangements.

Cambridge always feels more enclosed, with a wider range of building materials, including much use of brick, which gives it a warmth and perhaps more intimate scale.
