- This is ‘Outside Peterhouse with Pembroke College beyond, Cambridge’ (oil on canvas, 30x30cm). Long shadows cross the road outside Peterhouse, reaching across to the Master's Lodge with Pembroke beyond, a loan tethered bicycle waiting to be claimed at the end of this day. I love the way fleeting light and shade takes on such a strong compositional role - transforming everything.Returning to my recent Cambridge paintings - My attention was arrested here by another secluded byway, this time 'Senate House Passage from Trinity Lane' (oil on board, 40x40cm). In this composition I liked the 'wheel' of the foreground paving and the way the slabs projected forward along the narrow route with its many textured buildings, towards the neoclassical splendour of Senate House.‘From Gweal Hill on Bryher’ (Oil on Canvas, 20x51cm) - part of a series on the Isles of Scilly. From the topographical vantage point of Gweal Hill, the island of Bryer is spread out, conveying a sense of being at the world's edge. Autumn rich shades of bracken give way to silver crescents of sand, defining the many inlets and islands.‘Commanding the View (Trafalgar Square)’ (Oil on canvas, 76x76cm) - This iconic view of Trafalgar Square was made after a downpour. The blue-greys dominant in the painting imply the drama of a sea squall.
