I painted this in the classically landscaped grounds of West Wycombe as part of series 6 of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, broadcast in 2021 (it won the Wildcard section for the heat).

The view is looking across the ornamental lake to the Gothic boathouse. I made use of some beautiful flint nodules, standing them on end like megaliths in the foreground – reflecting on how they formed the land many years before landscape architects appeared on the scene.
