There are a series of extraordinary historic houses in Nottinghamshire that are publicly accessible. Kelham Hall and Thoresby Hall are hotels with grounds open to visitors. Rufford and Newstead are run by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council respectively whilst Wollaton is a museum of natural history.
