In her sculptural work Susan uses clay to express ideas in a very immediate, almost primal form. The plastic nature of the clay, its tactility and its directness allows her to work very quickly in drawing out these ideas. She uses relatively simple finishes, particularly oxides rubbed and drawn into the surface to enhance texture and detailing - these emphasise the intention behind each piece.
