Paintings

Susan Isaac is a Cardiff-born artist, now based in Nottinghamshire. Originally training in fine art she chose to develop her interest in the history of art and design and worked for several years as an illustrator of the archaeology of industry before returning in the late 1990s to concentrate on painting and sculpture. Her contemporary fine art work endeavours to capture the spirit of things or places she has known, seeking to illuminate aspects of the world that have captured her imagination - to evoke feeling.

This exhibition of Susan Isaac's latest work focuses on the relationship between people and their surroundings. It examines that relationship through painting and ceramic sculpture.

In Susan's ceramic work, people take on landscape forms so that dream-like heads and figures emulate landscapes through their undulating contours. The solidity of these clay figures contrasts with the fleeting outlines of human forms present in many of her paintings - ghostly figures that move through tonally coloured and richly textured landscapes.
